Congressman Rob Wittman, who has represented Virginia's 1st congressional district since 2007, disclosed that he made new trades in September, mostly on the short side of the market.

Among other trades, Republican Wittman sold shares of Comcast (CMCSA: US), International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF: US), Mastercard (MA: US) on September 15, as well as shares of WestRock Company (WRK: US) on September 27. All three trades were between $1,000 to $15,000 in size, Congressman disclosed in a filing.

Elsewhere, the Congressman invested in the S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY: US) when SPY closed at $390.12 and Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE: US), which acts as the benchmark index for the energy sector. Republican Wittman invested in XLE at $69.52, which is about 15% lower than the current market price of $81.00, thus representing a sizable profit in such a short space.

Congressman Wittman was also selling UK shares via shorting Franklin Templeton ETF Trust (FLGB: US), as well as iShares Core MSCI EAFE ETF (IEFA: US), which tracks a market-cap-weighted index of developed-market stocks in Europe, Australasia and the Far East, and excludes North America.

Another short trade that Congressman Wittman made was selling tech stocks via the iShares U.S. Technology ETF (IYW: US).

Trading the S&P 500 ETF is Wittman’s favorite trade, followed by trading individual stocks like Abbott Laboratories (ABT: US) and Walmart (WMT: US). On the other hand, his favorite sectors for trading are Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary, and IT.

Republican Wittman sits on Armed Services and Natural Resources committees.
